Policies implemented in 2020, on their own, do not create a 2021 "time-bomb" for SMEs. Rather, business failures and policy costs remain modest. By contrast, credit contraction poses significant risk. Such a contraction would disproportionately impact firms that could survive COVID-19 in 2020 without any fiscal support. Even in that scenario, most business failures would not arise from excessively generous 2020 policies, but rather from the contraction of credit to the corporate sector.<p><p> Data and code for conference paper published in AEA Papers and Proceedings.$$7Abstract 000003987 540__ $$aCreative Commons Public Domain Mark 1.0 Universal$$uhttps://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/deed.en$$fCC-PDM-1.0 000003987 7001_ $$aGourinchas, Pierre-Olivier$$7Personal$$uUniversity of California - Berkeley 000003987 7001_ $$aKalemli-Özcan, Sebnem$$7Personal$$uUniversity of Maryland 000003987 7001_ $$aPenciakova, Veronika$$7Personal$$uFederal Reserve Bank of Atlanta 000003987 7001_ $$aSander, Nick$$7Personal$$uBank of Canada$$3https://ror.org/05cc98565$$5ROR 000003987 791__ $$aJournalArticle$$eIsSupplementTo$$iReproducibility package is associated with peer-reviewed article$$w10.1257/pandp.20211109$$c2021$$dAEA Papers and Proceedings (American Economic Association)$$tCOVID-19 and Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises: A 2021 "Time Bomb"?$$2DOI$$j111$$q282$$o286 000003987 791__ $$aText$$eIsContinuedBy$$iAssociated conference paper is continued in Bank of Canada Staff Working Paper$$w10.34989/swp-2023-32$$c2023$$dBank of Canada$$tSME Failures Under Large Liquidity Shocks: An Application to the COVID-19 Crisis$$2DOI$$jStaff Working Paper$$k2023-32 000003987 791__ $$aDataset$$eIsNewVersionOf$$tData and Code for: COVID-19 and Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises: A 2021 “Time Bomb”?$$dAmerican Economic Association$$iDataset is update to an earlier version$$w10.3886/E139021V1$$2DOI$$c2021-04-27 000003987 8301_ $$aReproducibility Package 000003987 8301_ $$aEnsemble de données pour la reproductibilité des résultats de recherche 000003987 909CO $$ooai:www.oar-rao.bank-banque-canada.ca:3987$$pbibliographic 000003987 937__ $$aGourinchas, P.-O., Ş.
